shaking things up - cambiare il ritmo

After reading my last post and knowing that I was getting a bit bogged down Adrian suggested I tried a little printing to change the pace. "Ok" I thought. He usually knows me almost better than myself I will plus I get to used the newly installed paper hanging apparatus. Well the oddest thing happened I just found that I reached for the yellow ink and the mood lifted with the first pull.

Dopo aver letto il mio ultimo post e sapendo che sono stata un po impantanato Adrian mi suggerito perché non fare la stampa per cambiare il ritmo. "Ok" Ho pensato. Di solito lui mi conosce quasi meglio che mi conosco me stessa e comunque mi darà l'opportunità da utillizzare l'apparato di carta appeso che ho appena installato. Beh, una cosa strana è accaduto perché subito ho scelto l'inchiostro giallo e l'umore sollevato con la prima stampa.

the winter palette - la tavolozza di colori invernale

It is a very cold and blustery today with a nice topping of hail. I find that these winter months bring out in me a fitting colour palette. I feel drawn to the dark prussian blues, paynes grey, blacks, purples, deep sometimes comforting sometimes disturbing. I find it impossible to contemplate a yellow, lime green or pink. It's hard on the mind working in this way day after day without some ray of brightness to break the concentration. The pace is slow and it needs to be but sometimes I wonder will they ever be finished.

Oggi si tratta un giorno molto freddo e ventoso, con un piccante condimento di grandine. Trovo che questi mesi invernali, far emergere in me una tavolozza di colori ben adatto. Mi sento attratto ai colori scuri - blu di Prussia, grigio di Payne, nero, viola, a volte sono confortante a volte inquietante. Lo trovo impossibile contemplare un giallo, verde chiaro o rosa. E' difficile per la mente a lavorare così giorno dopo giorno senza un raggio di luminosità per rompere la concentrazione. Il ritmo è lento e ha bisogno di essere così, però a volte mi chiedo faranno mai essere finiti.

a question of physics

Well I wish I'd been more interested in science at school. Pulleys… they are a question of physics. Something which is beyond me. However call it gritty determination or bloody mindedness I will not have it that things don't work. So finally after much cursing here is my patented paper hanging system (and yes the window does still open)

Beh, avrei dovuto fatto più attenzione alla scienza a scuola. Pulegge ... sono una questione di fisica. Qualcosa che non mi capisce bene . Tuttavia chiamarlo determinazione o testardaggine non posso accettare le cose che non funzionano. Così alla fine, dopo tanto maledicendo ecco il mio sistema di carta appeso brevettato (e sì la finestra si apre)

PS: sembra proprio che Adrian faceva tutto il lavoro - ma non è vero

St Antonio Abate and the Kingdom of the New Church

Passed our local church in Manciano just now - packed to the gunnels. Mass is still well attended in the village and then I remembered there is a big lunch today to celebrate St Antonio - the stomach reigns even higher. Meanwhile we went to the Kingdom of the New Church down the hill and worshiped the good God DIY by buying the necessary bits and bobs to make my pulley operated paper hanging device for the studio.

in quarantine

Been in quarantine up here in the high parishes of Manciano. Both been suffering from ghastly vomiting bug which although the worst is over has left me lacking in lustre, enthusiasm and get up and go… Adrian is still sleeping it off. I feel guilty when I'm not doing anything so in lieu of getting out in the studio which is V cold and for today at least a little daunting here is a pic of where I was when I was cut down. The two paintings on the ground will form the last (i think) of this series of six I have been working on - the two above are nearly finished and out of shot two more which are finished (I hope).

Siamo in quarantena qui su a Manciano. Entrambi siamo stati soffrendo di un malattia vomito orribile che anche se il peggio è passato mi ha lasciato privo di lustro, di entusiasmo e con poca voglia ... Adrian sta ancora dormendo. Mi sento colpevole quando faccio niente quindi invece di andare allo studio che comunque è freddo e, per oggi almeno, un po 'scoraggiante ecco una foto al punto ero quando mi è stato abbattuto. I due quadri per terra sono l'ultimi (credo) di questa seria di sei di cui lavoravo - i due sopra sono quasi quasi finito e fuori vista ci sono altri due che ho finito (spero).

Che modernità c'è in questi disegni dal periodo Romana anche l'influenza dell' Africa quello in metà mi ricorda del arte Inglese medievale. Stupendi.

Amazing the modernity of these mosaics from Ostia Antica, (the remains of a Roman Port just outside Rome we visited over Christmas) Really shows the breadth of the empire with influences from Africa and it seems to me Northern Europe.
