Rachel Williams’ practice is largely about the media, place, history and with painting added to her original study of printmaking. Always with an interest in graphics her influences are TV news, pavements, cracks, and faults, signage, fences, building sites, industrial sites, motorways, fields, plastic, rubbish, found objects and so on. She is particularly interested in similarity and difference, mass media and its effect on our lives in the form of uniformity and repetition as seen in our environment.
Mark making and transference are key to Rachel’s work she uses printmaking techniques to make a separation between worker and works. Working simultaneously on often quite different themes/series usually with mixed media techniques. The contrast enables her to come to series afresh. Each providing the mind a relief from the other bringing new ways of seeing.
