Having recently returned to the UK I have found that my work has changed out of hand and I feel that I have started anew. The abstracts inspired by the Italian countryside have been replaced by a more urban and lively output. And it’s becoming increasingly varied. I am working across a number of themes concurrently. My recent work has been centered around history, place and politics with current obsessions: war and our little boy soldier Kim Jong Un. Always with an interest in graphics my influences are TV news, pavements, cracks, and faults, signage, fences, building sites, industrial sites, motorways, plastic, rubbish, found objects and so on. I have a fascination with similarity and difference, mass media and its effect on our lives in the form of uniformity and repetition as seen in our environment. Part of this new revelation is a change in materials, or rather a return to some elements. To working more in mixed media including collage on canvas and on paper. Most works contain some element of printmaking or transference as I am continually drawn to mark making in this way as it provides a separation between me and the subject which seems to enable a sedimented idea to come to the fore subconsciously. I suppose I see myself as an expressionist of sorts, though I am reluctant to be put in a box of any kind.
